Slemons Productions Presents The Wolves by Sarah Delappe

A fierce, funny, and deeply moving portrait of modern adolescence, The Wolves follows nine teenage girls on a suburban indoor soccer team as they warm up for a series of high-stakes games.

Left to navigate their world without adult intervention, the teammates bond over soccer drills while engaging in rapid-fire debates about everything from global politics and Khmer Rouge history to periods, sex, and social anxiety. Through overlapping dialogue and physical grit, Sarah DeLappe’s Pulitzer Prize-finalist play strips away teenage clichés to reveal a raw, unfiltered look at the power, vulnerability, and fierce loyalty of young women on the brink of adulthood.

Slemons Productions was founded in 2019 by Emma Hersey-Powers, Julia Scholz, and Dylan Amersyn. We attended Casco Bay High School together in Portland, ME. Soon after starting our premier show, Signed, Abigail R., we added Owain Milliken and Alexis Nicholas as permanent members of our company. The Covid-19 pandemic was a huge setback for us and in 2020, it shut down our dreams of performing Signed Abigail R., our self-made production. We came back stronger than ever in 2021, finally premiering the show and drawing sold-out houses full of patrons to The Hill Arts. The five of us decided as a group that the mission of Slemons productions is to put on shows that we think have important messages for young people citywide, statewide, or worldwide.

Recently, we formed our official Board of Directors consisting of Emma, Julia, Lexi, and Owain, as well as new members: Bridgid Amato, Camden Marble, Paige Scala, and Emily Hayes. In our proceedings as a company, we want to continually highlight shows that are culturally crucial for young people in our community, and give every passionate young person a chance to shine in the theatre. Slemons productions is run by young adults and all proceeds from each show we perform go right back into producing our next. We can’t wait to continue to bring shows to the greater Portland area, this summer and beyond!
