About Slemons Productions
Slemons Productions was founded in 2019 by Emma Hersey-Powers, Julia Scholz, and Dylan Amersyn. We attended Casco Bay High School together in Portland, ME. Soon after starting our premier show, Signed, Abigail R., we added Mo Milliken and Alexis Nicholas as permanent members of our company. The Covid-19 pandemic was a huge setback for us and in 2020, it shut down our dreams of performing Signed Abigail R., our self-made production. We came back stronger than ever in 2021, finally premiering the show and drawing sold-out houses full of patrons to The Hill Arts (formerly St. Lawrence Arts). The five of us decided as a group that the mission of Slemons productions is to put on shows that we think have important messages for young people citywide, statewide, or worldwide. In our proceedings as a company, we want to continually highlight shows that are culturally crucial for young people in our community, but also explore the limits of theatre and what can be done with all different genres and style of shows. We also aim to give any person passionate about theatre a chance to shine.
In 2022, we formed our official Board of Directors consisting of Emma, Julia, Lexi, Mo, as well as Bridgid Amato, Camden Marble, and Paige Scala. In the following years we also added Emily Hayes, and Freeman. Slemons productions is now in its 7th year run by young adults and all proceeds from each show we perform go right back into producing our next. We can’t wait to continue to bring shows to the greater Portland area and beyond!
